CO matters – please read

The Exco and SLs were briefed earlier regarding the following. Please make sure you read and take note of each and every clause that is stated.

1) SOPs of Events/Performance

a)      When there is an event/performance, the teacher-in-charge will inform the 3 leaders (Chairman, Vice-chairman & Student Conductor). They will then inform the orchestra.

b)      The 3 leaders will do the selection of songs.

(i)                  It should be appropriate for the occasion, eg, livelier songs for CNY, more grand or impressive songs for Founder’s Day.

(ii)                There should also be a consideration for the difficulty of the songs, so that all the performers will be able to learn the pieces within the period of time given.

(iii)               At any time, there should be songs in our pocket – i.e. songs that performers are ready to perform without much rehearsal eg, Nobody.

c)       Selection of performers by SLs. If possible, rotate the performers so that everyone has an equal chance to perform. Selection can be done based on the following:

(i)                  Priority is given to upper sec students as they will be graduating soon.

(ii)                Exposure opportunities – younger members, if given the opportunity to perform, can have the chance to hone their skills and rise up to the occasion.

d)      The 3 leaders will submit the list of performers and repertoire to Ms Ong.

e)      The 3 leaders will decide the days and timings of self practice. You are encouraged to make use of Thursday bass practice. Ms Ong will update the leaders regarding the teacher in charge of the self-practice.

f)       SLs/3 leaders will take attendance during the self practice for the performers who are involved.

g)      If there is a need, Ms Ong will issue consent forms and confirm the attire for the event.

2)      Normal Practice

a)      Attendance will be taken by SLs. Please submit the marked attendance to your instructor for verification (sign at bottom of attendance sheet). Please marked “0” for absentees and “L” for latecomers. For absentees, SLs should collect the photocopied MCs and pass to Student Conductor for filing.

b)      In the event of the instructor unable to come for practice, the section will continue with self practice. Please inform the teacher in charge the instructor is unable to come and do not dismiss section without the teacher’s permission.

b)      A lot of money has been spent on the reparation of instruments. If the situation worsens, we may look into the option of getting the students to co-pay for the repair.

c)       The CDS will be opened on Friday mornings on practice day 7.15am to 7.45am to let you to return your instruments to CDS so that you do not have to carry their instruments around the whole day.

d)      In the event where any (ex-) student needs to borrow NASCO instruments for audition, please inform and request through Ms Ong. The student needs to produce a letter stating the loan and return date, purpose of the loan, the instrument and include your contact details in the letter.

e)      In the event where any (ex-) student needs a letter of recommendation, please inform and request through Ms Ong. Please inform Ms Ong of the leadership position (if any), achievements, grade level of your instrument, number of years you learnt the instrument and anything useful that you think you want to include in the letter.
